“I’ve had offers, yes” – West Brom approach for manager revealed, was lined up as Corberán replacement

West Bromwich Albion had Belgian manager Carl Hoefkens as a target for the job had Carlos Corberán gone to Leeds, according to reports today.

As outlet Voetbal Nieuws brings a piece with the coach’s first quotes since his departure from Club Brugge last year, they write about a club who wanted him signing.

It all starts with Hoefkens, covering the interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, revealing that he had recent approaches.

“I’ve had offers, yes. But I don’t care. I’m ambitious. I don’t think my future has been damaged by my passage at Club Brugge and I’m certainly looking ahead. We’ll see what the future has in store for me.”

Then Voetbal Nieuws comes up that the manager was ‘in the picture’ at West Brom. It’s recalled that he played for the Baggies between 2007 and 2009, and pointed out that ‘there were question marks’ regarding the future of Carlos Corberán at the English club.

The report does not make it clear when this approach for Hoefkens was done, as Corberán remains in the job, but it’s safe to say that it will have come around the time Leeds were sniffing around and West Brom were just covering their backs.

West Brom have had a huge improvement since the end of January, with 11 wins in their last 13 games, and the Baggies stand in 9th on the Championship table, meaning that contract extension in February is looking like a great decision now.
